This Unicorn Popcorn tutorial demonstrates how to make this fun kids treat with white chocolate, sprinkles, and whatever other fun topping ideas you can think of! Try this simple recipe for your next unicorn or magical themed party.

Unicorn Popcorn appears to be in abundance! It’s the ideal homemade treat or snack for unicorn-themed parties or events.

Popcornopolis and Amazon both sell it ready-made. I’ve heard it’s even available at Costco. But why buy it when you can make it yourself for much less money and in a healthier way? Furthermore, if you make it yourself, you can make it exactly how you want it.

INGREDIENTS

POPCORN

You can use whatever kind of popcorn you want! If you’re using regular popcorn, you can always spray it with edible luster spray to give it a fun color. Here are some popular popcorn base ideas:

The air burst

Popcorn in the Microwave

Popcorn in bags, such as sea salt or kettle corn

Popcorn in a variety of colors

CHOCOLATE MELTED

This is what allows the toppings to adhere to the popcorn. I prefer candy melts in your desired color, but regular white chocolate and candy colors, which are oil-based food coloring that works with white chocolate, can also be used. More information on melting and decorating with chocolate can be found here.

IDEAS FOR TOPPINGS

This is the exciting part! The only limit to how you can decorate your popcorn is your imagination.

Mix of Unicorn Sprinkles

Candy

HOW TO MAKE POPCORN WITH AN UNICORN

Unicorn popcorn is incredibly simple to make, and as previously stated, you can customize the colors, flavors, and toppings to your liking. You can even match it to your popcorn boxes, bags, and other party supplies.

STEP 1: MAKE THE POPCORN

Make your popcorn using the method of your choice. You’re already set if you’re using bagged or pre-made popcorn!

Lay the popped popcorn flat on a piece of parchment paper once it has cooled. Personally, I like to place the parchment on a baking sheet to make it easier to move around.

Optional: To add color to your popped popcorn, spray it with edible luster spray before adding the chocolate and toppings!

STEP 2: ADDING CHOCOLATE AND INGREDIENTS

Melt the chocolate according to the package directions. More information on melting and decorating with chocolate can be found here.

Once melted, transfer to a pastry bag and drizzle over popcorn. You can also use a spoon to drizzle it over the popcorn.

Sprinkle on your desired toppings while the chocolate is still melted to ensure they stick.

STEP 3: WAIT FOR DRYING, MIX, AND REPEAT

Allow the chocolate to harden after adding the toppings. When the chocolate has hardened, combine it with the chocolate popcorn.

Then, spread it out on the parchment-lined baking sheet once more and top with more melted chocolate and toppings. This ensures that the popcorn is not only covered in chocolate on one side.

I think three times is enough, but you can do it as many times as you want to ensure the popcorn is completely covered in chocolate and sprinkles. After it has dried for the final time, break it up and it is ready to serve!

HOW TO MAKE UNICORN POPCORN

(1) Use colored chocolate melts in the desired colors, or purchase candy food coloring, which is oil-based and will not cause your white chocolate melts or white chocolate to separate. White chocolate cannot be colored with regular or gel food coloring because it will become grainy.

(2) I used about 1/2 cup candy melts for each color. However, the amount of chocolate you use will vary depending on how much popcorn you make, how many different colors you use, and how many times you mix up and re-cover the popcorn with chocolate and toppings.

(3) Why limit yourself to unicorn popcorn when you can make galaxy popcorn with dark purple and black candy melts and galaxy sprinkles, or mermaid popcorn with blue, purple, and green candy melts and sprinkles like this!

(4) To keep the popcorn from going stale, store it in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
