(11) Then toss to coat evenly with large kitchen tongs or spoons.
Another method is what I call the “cook ahead” method which involves :
(1) Cook the noodles the night before. If cooking them a few hours ahead then you can also toss them in a little oil to prevent from sticking
(2) Prepare the chow mein sauce mixture and cut the vegetables the night before also
(3) Store them in the fridge
(4) Chow mein is fantastic to make ahead and take to work or school as meal
(5) Simply place the cooked chow mein in meal containers and store in the fridge
Note : the above listed are ways you can either store or cook ahead.
Now let’s look at how to prepare it properly :
(1) Selecting a tender cut of beef is important for chow mein
(2) Flank steak is the best choice, and you can also use sirloin steak or skirt steak
(3) If you have the budget, rib eye and strip steak are more options
(4) To save preparation time, ask your butcher to slice the beef for you
(5) Consider the time needed to cook each vegetable and add them in order
(6) Keep your pan at medium high heat to get a good stir fry and avoid the ingredients starting to simmer
(7) After some minutes you can then allow it to cool off a bit.
Note : best served at room temperature.
